old friends.

I was catching up with an old friend of mine the other day through Facebook Chat. He was my best friend and neighbor until I was 10 and my family moved to a different town. In the first year since I moved we had visited each other two or three times but I could tell we were losing interest and had nothing in common. After that we hadn't spoken for 7+ years, until Facebook hit its peak of popularity and he added me as a friend.

We got talking and I searched through his pictures and wall posts and realized he and I were completely different people. He exclusively wore Abercrombie and Fitch and other brand clothing like American Eagle. He practically lived on his iPhone. He was into drugs like cocaine, ecstasy, binge drinking, pot, etc. He listens to popular mainstream rap music like Eminem, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and whatever else teens currently listen to, and expected me to keep up with popular trends.

I couldn't give a shit about popular rap music. I listen to the Beatles. I don't give a fuck what people think if I'm not wearing Abercrombie or if I don't drink. I'm 6'4", white, I wear glasses, and I play guitar. How did we become completely different people within a few years? It's certainly strange how far apart people grow. All I know is I'm happy with who I am and who I have become and wouldn't change a thing. Probably more to come later when I collect my thoughts together....

  3. "I listen to the Beatles."

Fuck yeah, amazing band. I've had "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club" on loop all day.

  5. Jeez you sound like me... I have a friend I haven't seen in years thatI've found on facebook. I can't bring myself to message him though. I don't know how if the differrent lives we've led will hinder our ability to reconnect.

  8. Kudos to you, liking who you are and not caring about what people say is how everyone should be, that's the first step towards originality. The moment you do things because of others is were you stop being unique.

  11. the thing is i'm not completely bothered by it. "so what?" is basically how I feel since it's been so long and I've moved on.

he also said that he probably wouldn't have gotten into drugs if I hadn't moved. That was ten years ago, he's just looking for excuses to cover up his flaws. Thanks for reading, guys.

  17. A similar thing happened to me and my neighbor. I'm about to move away and I don't think I'm even going to say goodbye.
